The Lapeer County Concert Choir is preparing to celebrate its
50th season – “A Season to Celebrate.”
The community choir will begin its fall season on Monday, September 11, rehearsing from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer. The community choir is open to all singers eighteen years old or older.
Youth between the ages of thirteen and eighteen who are proficient music readers and involved in a school or church choral or instrumental ensemble are eligible to participate in the choir through our “Generation Connection” program. This opportunity pairs each youth with an adult mentor from the choir. Youth participants have the same rehearsal and concert attendance requirements as adult members.
Our fall concert program is entitled “A Season to Celebrate the Mystery and Wonderful of the Birth.” The musical selections for the fall concert represent a variety of musical styles exploring and revealing the wonder and mystery surrounding the birth of the Christ child. Composers represented by our fall repertoire include J.S. Bach, G. F. Handel, Paul Tschesnokoff, Benjamin Britten, Moses Hogan, and the choir’s own composer-in-residence, Knight Vernon. The choir this season will premier his choral work “O Magnum Mysterium.”
The choir is directed by Dr. Eddie Howell a recent Michigan transplant from Kentucky. Dr. Howell has extensive experience as a choral and instrumental conductor and music educator. He is currently an adjunct instructor in music for Mott Community College, music director for First Baptist Church, Davison, and performs contract work for the Flint Symphony Orchestra. The choir is also excited to welcome back as our accompanist Nancy Tazzia. Her role as an experienced choral accompanist and a valued member of the Lapeer County Concert Choir will be a vital asset to the choir’s 50th season.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION
The Lapeer County Concert Choir will be hosting a fun packed road rally on
Saturday, Oct. 14th. Teams of 4-6 members will be given a packet of clues which will take them to 10 destinations in the Lapeer area. At each destination, they will answer 3 questions about that particular location.
Organizer Sarah Gardiner says, “These are not difficult clues. A third grader could figure them out. In fact, this would be a great activity for families. It’s more of a race to see if you can complete the course in the allotted time.”
The road rally begins at 5:00 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer. Teams will have 2 ½ hours to complete the course with check-in time at 8:00. The fee of $10 per person also includes a dessert bar in the fellowship hall of the church after the rally.
The choir hopes to make this fund-raising event an annual activity for the community. If you have any questions or want to pre-register your team, you can call Sarah at 810 688-8708.
