NEWS FLASH - WE HAVE A NEW DIRECTOR!

May 22, 2016 - From Dr. Howell
Dear Choir Family,

I count it an honor and privilege to have been selected as your new music director. I have great expectations for the choir as we begin our musical journey together. I look forward to our first season together to building the foundation for a new choral sound. This first year endeavor will pay musical dividends as we look to the future in anticipation of the choir’s 50th anniversary season.

July 18, 2016 - From Dr. Howell
Dear Choir Family,

It is hard to believe our first rehearsal, Monday, September 12, for our 49th Season – I Hear America Singing -- is quickly approaching. As we prepare for this date I want to give you three challenges.

First, for the fall season I would like to see our membership grow to 60 singers, with a goal of 40 women and 20 men. Let each of us begin thinking of family members, friends, church members, and co-workers who could be potential members for the choir and reach out to them. Especially, let us reach out to invite younger adults to join our group.

Second, make it a priority to begin preparing yourself for our first rehearsal. I have planned a very musically ambitious fall season. There are two things you can do by going to our website – lapeercountyconcertchoir.com. First, make time to view and listen to the music for our winter concert program. Second, on the home page go to the “Latest Forum Posts” on the right side of the page and open the most recent “Letter from Dr. Howell”. Take time to read my letter and view the attached youtube video – “Robert Shaw: Preparing a Masterwork.”

Third, it would be great if we could secure a corporation, large company, or individual(s) to sponsor each of our concert seasons, winter and/or spring, for 2016/2017. If you know of any potential donors send the information to Pamela Painter, our president, or myself. Our board members do an outstanding job each year of stretching our limited resources to achieve a successful year. Let’s do our part to increase musical opportunities for our choir.

As we begin our musical journey together as a choir family the hymn text of The Servant Song comes to mind.

We are pilgrims on the journey
We are brothers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load

I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony
Born to all we’ve known together
Of Christ’s love and agony
